LGBT Protest NBC Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics
Friday, February 7, 2014 Winter Olympics Opening
Ceremony - LGBT activists and human rights supporters protested
outside NBC studios in San Diego due to their censorship of human rights (& animal rights) abuses in
Russia.
NBC 7 San Diego uses a backdrop painted on a construction wall for their live
newscasts. The group demonstrated in front of the backdrop (which is on
public property) during the 4:00pm news broadcast. NBC censored the group by putting up a screen
to block the view out the broadcast window. Apparently pride flags will not be allowed to be shown next to the rainbow NBC peacock logo.
Friday, November 22, 2013 Hillcrest, San Diego, under the Pride Flag -
Hear speakers from the trans* community (this event will highlight
trans* voices only). Bring signs! Wear pink, blue or white in solidarity
with the trans* community. Facepaint will be available on site.
WHY WE RALLY
Transgender
students moved one step closer to justice with the passing of the
School Success and Opportunity Act (AB 1266) this year. This brand new
California bill guarantees transgender students safe access to necessary
school facilities & activities in public schools. As you may know,
this bill and these students are under attack by national transphobic
organizations. Over the past 90 days, they have been running a media
smear campaign against trans* youth and lying to the public to get this
issue on the ballot.
California officials have until Nov. 21st to
count & validate signatures. WHETHER THEY QUALIFY THE REFERENDUM OR
NOT, WE WILL RALLY IN HILLCREST TO SUPPORT OUR YOUTH!
